YMTS was launched in October 2006 and has since become a charitable organisation. YMTS offers intense workshop and production projects for young people aged 5 to 19 years across Scotland during school holidays. We also run weekly classes in Stirling on a Sunday afternoon. These classes aim to help participants develop their musical theatre skills and work towards the Trinity Guildhall Musical Theatre graded exams. A Hot House programme takes place each summer, aimed at developing brand new pieces of musical theatre. Hot House projects involve young people in every aspect, from the writing and composing to directing and technical theatre.
As well as encouraging young people in performance, YMTS run intern projects with those interested in the technical and production sides of theatre.
This past summer YMTS has worked with over 350 young people across Scotland. We have had production and workshop projects in Stirling, Kirkcaldy, St Andrews and Dunfermline, and have produced a large number of shows, including Fame!, Annie Jr., The Jungle Book Kids and Into The Woods.
The YMTS production teams consist of a variety of Directors, Choreographers, Musical Directors and Technicians who work professionally in musical theatre. The practitioners have experience of leading young people's musical theatre in the UK and abroad, and are committed to youth development through musical theatre.
