Paul Copland's Photo

Paul Copland describes what this photo from Smokey Joe's Cafe means to him

'This photo, first off, is excellent! It shows many things, the most prominent of which is that I'm NOT a morning person. The day was the 27th October 2006 and we were on a rickety bus with a crocodile on the side, on the way to the macrobert centre in Stirling for the launch of SYMT (Scottish Youth Music Theatre, not what it is now so bear with me!) and it was about 8:45am or thereabouts, anyway, somewhere on the road to Stirling!

This is me (Paul Copland) and my amazing pal Katie McKinnon. Now, Katie and I first started acting opposite each other in Guys and Dolls in April 2005. At the time I was writing this we're now in November 2009 and the link that Katie and I share is stronger now than it ever has been, not that anything is different, we've always been really close and it's all thanks to YMTS. And that's not just with Katie! Most of, if not all of the friends I've made in the past 5 years (yes, I've been a glutton for this amazing punishment for over 5 years now) are still amazing friends now. One of the first things that struck me about these projects is the amazing people you meet.

Traditionally rehearsals start at 10am and finish at 5pm, a long day, but the fun never stops at the rehearsal space! Just because the projects aren't running during term time, doesn't mean we're not all in touch. For those who damn social networking sites such as Facebook or Bebo, hush! It's the most effective way to keep in touch with people you only ever see 2 or 3 times a year. But we all see each other much more now that we're all grown up and can either drive or ride buses like seasoned professionals!

In regards to SYMT, I don't know why the name changed...but I personally prefer YMTS. Sounds much more modern if you ask me!

I don't get to perform now as much as I'd like, but I make sure I'm there involved to some extent. That's enough for me!'
